Guidelines for Personal Attendants Dear Personal Attendant of Workshop participants, Thank you for scheduling to accompany your group of visitors to the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s Workshop program! We’re looking forward to making your visit the most rewarding art experience you’ve ever had; however, we need your help to accomplish this.
- You are responsible for the behavior of your group’s participants.
You have good rapport with each individual in your group and know their abilities.
- It is required that your group have one (1) experienced personal attendant accompany every four (4) Workshop participants. We, Museum Guides, Teachers, and administrators, are responsible for giving the tours. We have much expertise about the works of art in the Museum’s collections and are excited to share our knowledge with our audience.
- Arrive early. I cannot stress enough how important this is. Everybody will have time to acclimate from the drive over to being in the Museum, to meet their Guides, and to be relaxed and ready when their tour starts. If you arrive late or start late, your tour will have to be shorter (Guides have other tours scheduled after yours) and we really want to give you a full art experience.
We, Museum Guides, Teachers, and administrators, also have training and experience in communicating with people who have disabilities similar to your client’s, however, sometimes the art galleries are over stimulating for participants.
- For the safety of your clients and of our great works of art, if there is any inappropriate behavior in the museum or the art galleries, we will need to have the clients return to the Accessible Entrance for quiet time, or to the art making studio to begin their art making project.
-
In the art making studio, we will have one teacher and several assistants. We have been successfully creating an enjoyable environment for art making for people with differing abilities for many years and will help your clients with their art making in the studio, but your help with individuals in the art making studios is also welcomed.
