"In arranging my new apartment I see your paintings again with so much pleasure.... There's such a note of truth, of real countryside in each one."
Letter to van Gogh from his brother Theo, Paris, March 16, 1889
"I've looked most attentively at your works since we parted; first at your brother's and then at the Independents exhibition. I offer you my sincere compliments, and for many artists you are the most remarkable in the exhibition. With things from nature you are the only one there who thinks."
Letter to van Gogh from artist Paul Gauguin, Paris, March 20, 1890

Struck by Van Gogh's perspective and the sense of how he was sort of dependent upon his brother for encouragement - but just as importantly for supplies. His paintings were so dense when he was well stocked (both fiscally and emotionally) and that came through pretty clearly over the course of the exhibit.

The logo type for the exhibition was awful! The show was beautiful. Van Gogh's sense of calligraphy is delicate and exquisite.

Givem that the premise of the exhibition is largely that VG was breaking new ground with his perspectives and focus, it might have been useful to juxtapose some more "conventional" paintings to highlight VG's innovation.
