Visiting an exhibition in person is a much richer experience than visiting online. Read the thoughts and impressions left by others during the run of the Calder Jewelry exhibition.
It was my pleasure to present Alexander Calder's jewelry to you. An
exhibition such as this takes many months of preparation. You have to
learn so much in such a short period of time. After the exhibition
opened, I gave many tours and was asked many interesting
questions. Reading your comments and questions online provided me with
even further insights. This gave me the opportunity to learn
more, but more importantly to raise more questions! That is the journey
of a curator, in a nutshell.
The Nancy M. McNeil Associate Curator of American Modern and

Thank you for all the terrific feedback, questions, and comments. I'm glad we initiated this new way of interacting with our public; it has opened a 21st century channel of communication to our art historical world. Thank you for being a part of it. I look forward to future opportunities to continue our dialogue.

I have been meaning to come "across the street" since the Perelman Building opened. It was truly worth the trip! How lucky we are to have generous donors like the Perelman's!! Calder has been a favorite of mine since I first saw his mobiles. They touched my inner child! I went out of my way to visit his exhibition Hall in Sache, France when I was there. Unfortunately at the time, the hall had been vacated. There were a few really belly laughing things left behind though! I'll leave it as a mystery what they were....unless you made the trip too! I am a student of Jewelry in Monterey, CA and this is an amazing exhibit. It has been fascinating to see how Calder was able to cold connect these long ungulating pieces of wire to invent these fanciful, simple, yet elegant designs. I am particularly moved by the piece he made for his mother and for those initial pieces that are sprinkled throughout the exhibit. And, a special thanks to the staff of guards who were EXTREMELY courteous and helpful.

my wife, binnie, made jewelry reminiscent of this work in the early 70's. She may have inherited a tiny bit of the artist's spirit.

I'm a wire jewelry artist and was happy to discover that Calder had created wire jewelry too. I've been an admirer of his work for a while, have seen his work in person in D.C. and Chicago, and have 3 Calder books in my personal library. Not ONE of these books show any of his jewelry. I ordered your exhibit book. Can't wait to get it!

I am currently an artist jeweller in residence at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Although I have not been able to visit the Calder exhibition in Philadelphia I hope to do so when it comes to Dublin. There is a lovely Calder spiral neckpiece in the V&A collection made in 1938 and I will be showing an image of it on my V&A blog in a few weeks if anyone wishes to see it there.

Is this the same Calder that has a piece of art on Calder Plaza in Grand Rapids, Michigan?

Simply not enough serious attention is paid to objects of adornment using high craft as ART. Thank you for putting up this show, and PLEASE continue to show the vast amount of serious artists who made jewelry, and continue to do so.
