"In arranging my new apartment I see your paintings again with so much pleasure.... There's such a note of truth, of real countryside in each one."
Letter to van Gogh from his brother Theo, Paris, March 16, 1889
"I've looked most attentively at your works since we parted; first at your brother's and then at the Independents exhibition. I offer you my sincere compliments, and for many artists you are the most remarkable in the exhibition. With things from nature you are the only one there who thinks."
Letter to van Gogh from artist Paul Gauguin, Paris, March 20, 1890

Seeing the actual works in such detail made me realize how thick and bold his strokes were. You can't get that looking at them online!

I truly enjoyed the exhibit and I'm soooo glad I didn't miss it. I was visually impressed with Van Gogh's passion and vision, and how he transformed simple objects, like a blade of grass or a branch from a tree, into his own compelling interpretation on the canvas. The colors and vivid brushstrokes were amazing to see in person.

I disagree with Stephen! The exhibit was nice without any life biography stuff anyway. It would have been nice but not needed.

I loved all of the paintings but I wish the museum had included more information about Van Gogh's life the way the Frida Kahlo exhibit was done.
