Provenance

Perhaps the Duke of Buckingham's collection; his sale, Christie's, London, November 30, 1839, lot 115 to Edwards [1]. Spanish Art Gallery, London; sold to Henry P. McIlhenny, Philadelphia, 1950; bequest to PMA, 1986. 1. According to the Getty Provenance Index, lot 115 in this sale was a Peschier Still Life dated 1661. No dimensions are supplied in the catalogue, and two other Peschier still lifes dated 1661 are candidates for this sale; one is in the Frits Lugt collection, Institut Neerlandais, Paris, inv. no. 7674, and the other was sold at Christie's, London, April 28, 1961, lot 159 (unillus).
