This chair was designed for the barroom of the Vienna Kabarett Fledermaus, a café-theater conceived as a meeting place for the Viennese avant-garde. Its interior decoration was designed largely by Hoffmann and executed by the Wiener Werkstätte (Vienna Workshops).
