Strand met the photographer Richard Benson in 1972, and under his supervision, entrusted Benson with the printing of his images for a series of portfolios. Benson’s fidelity to Strand’s own printing methods is readily apparent. But so too is Benson’s own aesthetic: here, he chose to soften some of Strand’s otherwise stark black tones and heighten the texture of the camera body.
