For his Arcadian series of pastoral subjects—of which two unfinished paintings and three sculptural reliefs are known—Eakins returned to his method of projecting photographic studies. The photographs Eakins used to make these depictions of an innocent classical past have not survived, but he printed variant images from the same sessions as independent works.
