Openwork Fruit Basket

1770-1772
American China Manufactory (Bonnin and Morris), Philadelphia (1770–1772)
In 1841 Dr. James Mease presented this basket to the Franklin Institute, Philadelphia, with a letter explaining that it was made at the city's American China Manufactory. With the early documentation this letter provides, this basket is the standard---a Rosetta Stone---for authenticating wares produced by the factory.
