Hall Lantern

Designed by Thomas Chippendale (English, 1718–1779)
This lantern follows a model that was originally commissioned in wood by William, fifth earl of Dumfries, for Dumfries House, Ayrshire, Scotland. In 1762, Chippendale included an image of the lantern in the third edition of his book The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker’s Director.
