In addition to the prayers embossed on the surface of the wheel, immense numbers of prayers are written or printed on paper that is rolled around the wheel's shaft. Tibetan-Buddhist devotees spin the prayer wheel to multiply the prayers included on the wheel-thus activating thousands of prayers for each rotation.
