Artist/maker unknown, French
With its masterful carving and elegant patterns achieved through wood and paste inlays, this coffer is an exceptional piece of French Renaissance cabinetry. The oval on the top would have been filled with some kind of decoration, perhaps originally with an enamel plaque.
