Pierre Cardin brought a new spirit to the world of fashion design. In the 1950s, he was the first couturier to introduce a ready-to-wear line and to design menswear; he broke new ground in the 1960s with his space-age clothing; and in the 1970s he became a global entrepreneur by licensing designs for all manner of products. This coat, made for the designer’s boutique, combines wide stripes, snaps, and leather-and-d-ring closures to epitomize casual chic.
