"Words" Quilt

c. 1979-1983
Sarah Mary Taylor (American, 1916–2000)
Inspired by her aunt Pecolia Warner, who made a quilt with her first initial P, Sarah Mary Taylor designed a series of "word" quilts that play with the positive and negative shapes of letters. The text is not easily deciphered; some of the words have meaning if sounded phonetically.
