In the late Joseon dynasty the types of porcelain wares produced expanded beyond vessels used to serve food. This flowerpot stand, a good example of a nonfood container, is carved with an elaborate openwork design that suggests lotus blossoms growing in a pond. The open top allows for water drainage.
