Dessert Plate: "Penitentiary, Philadelphia"
From a Dessert Service showing Views of Philadelphia
Decorated by the shop of Louis Marie François Rihouët, Paris, 1818 - 1855. After a drawing by C. Burton.
This dessert plate, part of a service, depicts scenes of architectural monuments of Philadelphia. It was either commissioned by Richard Rush--minister to France from 1847 to 1849--or Phoebe Anne Ridgway, wife of Dr. James Rush.
