Sideboard or Console Table

1835-1837
Joseph B. Barry (American (born Ireland), 1757–1838) , and Johannes Krickbaum , active as partners 1835 to 1838 (American, 1809–1839)
By the time this sideboard was made, the shop that famed Philadelphia cabinetmaker Joseph Barry operated with Lewis Krickbaum was a large warehouse-style factory. The carved caryatids, or female figures, are allusions to the ancient Greek's defeat of the Persians. The identity of the artist who carved the figures is not yet known, but he was likely a stonemason, and his work has been identified on furniture made in Baltimore in the 1820s.
