Portrait of a Nobleman (Possibly a Member of the Solms Family)

c. 1520-1529
Hans Döring (German (active Laubach and Wetzlar), first documented 1511, died 1558)
Before settling in Wetzlar, Germany, about 1515, Hans Döring trained in the Wittenberg workshop of the German painter and printmaker Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553). This work is reminiscent of Cranach's portrait style both in the general composition and in the treatment of the hands, facial features, and clothing.
