LabelIn obedience to Jewish law, the newborn Christ is brought to the temple, where his mother is ritually purified by her offering of two turtle doves. The panel comes from a predella, or base, of an altarpiece commissioned in 1461 for the Florentine boys' club called the Confraternity of the Purification of the Virgin.* Works in the collection are moved off view for many different reasons. Although gallery locations on the website are updated regularly, there is no guarantee that this object will be on display on the day of your visit. |
