Enthroned Virgin and Child, with Four Donors

c. 1490-1493
Andrea Solario (Italian (active Venice, Milan, Normandy, and Rome), first dated work 1495, died 1524)
This example of Andrea Solario's early work dates to the brief but formative period he spent in Venice from about 1490 to 1495. The horizontal format, emphasis on lighting effects, and landscape seen through the two arched windows recall the work of contemporary Venetian painters such as Giovanni Bellini.
