James Galanos (born 1924), recognized as a "Dean of American Fashion," apprenticed in Paris with Robert Piguet. He opened his own salon in Los Angeles in 1952, and over the next four decades produced some of the most exclusive ready-to-wear in the United States. His timeless, luxurious designs ranged from simple, black chiffon cocktail dresses to exquisitely tailored coats to sumptuous beaded evening gowns that were worn by a distinguished clientele including Nancy Reagan and actress Rosalind Russell. Since his retirement in 1998 Galanos has pursued fine art photography and exhibited in Los Angeles and New York.
